Koutulai Mill Project (2008/09)
The 2008/2009 project for EFOD West Midlands was to build a grinding mill in Uganda. This project was delivered in partnership with the Salt Peter Trust (http://www.saltpetertrust.co.uk/), to support their agricultural cooperative scheme. The scheme enables a community of local widows to grind their crops at no cost and generate funds by grinding for neighbo urs at a commercial rate.
The EFOD team began work on fundraising and designing in November 2008.
Construction started in August 2009 and was completed in November 2009. During the construction phase 10 EFOD members went to Uganda to supervise construction.
The project was completed on time and on budget.
The mill is now fully operational and is being used by the community.
On the 12th May 2010 the project won the Team Achievement and Overall Project awards at the ICE West Midlands Annual Awards evening.
